Before and After School Program
– Program Overview
The Roxbury Day Care Center’s Before and After School Program provides a safe, nurturing, and recreational environment for school-age children while their parents work or attend school. A variety of activities are offered in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment.
The Before and After School Program provides care for approximately 230 children in kindergarten through 6th grade both before and after their regular school day. This program operates out of a rental site in a local church. The church also houses the Before and After Kindergarten portion of the program. The Before and After School portion of the program is offered in 5 sites: one in each of the elementary schools in Roxbury Township as well as the Lincoln/ Roosevelt School.
Care is offered from 6:45-9:00am and 2:45-6:00pm during every day that the Roxbury Township Public Schools are open during the school year. Extended care is provided on days that the schools have regularly scheduled early dismissals (parent-teacher conferences, etc) Extra care is offered on days that the schools are closed but the Center is open, for a nominal daily fee.
Each Site is staffed with a Lead Teacher and Teacher Assistants in both the morning and afternoon sessions. Many choices of activities are offered, which include homework help, table games, large motor activities, arts and crafts activities, music, and reading time. Outdoor play is provided every day that the weather permits.
A nutritious snack is provided each afternoon, and menus are available in each site.
Various programs are offered to meet the needs of working parents: both before and after school, before school only, after school only, 3 days per week and 5 days per week. Also offered are: before and after kindergarten, before kindergarten only, and after kindergarten only. Fees are based upon the program and number of days that the family chooses.
Subsidized fees are also available for income-eligible families, based on the family’s gross annual income and family size. Families wishing to apply for a subsidized child care space must provide documentation of income including the most recent four weeks worth of payroll stubs and the most recent income tax return.
The Before and After School Program operates solely on parent fees and the support of the United Way of Morris County. There is no additional funding received on behalf of this program from any other source. The BASP is thereby able to offer affordable care to all income levels.
